The City of Tulsa held a pop-up event on Saturday in Tulsa to explain their master plan for the Kirkpatrick Heights and Greenwood Districts.
Community members talked to city volunteers at the Oasis Fresh Market in Tulsa about the future of the project.
The project will decide what to do with 56 acres of publicly-owned land in the Kirkpatrick Heights and Greenwood Districts in Tulsa.
Community members like Bobby Eaton are excited to see what the plan is for the area.
“Any time a group of people can come together in our community and do something positive, it is a great thing, and a good thing to uplift our community to do good things,” said Eaton.
The city hopes pop-ups like this one will allow for more collaboration between the public and the leadership committee.
"This is most likely going to be one of the biggest projects in the history of our city, and from the get-go, we wanted to really be intentional about how do we ensure that this is driven by the North Tulsa community,” said Rodrigo Rojas with the City of Tulsa.
By allowing the public to explain their needs directly to the team, Rojas hopes people will be able to shape their community to fit their needs.
“The primary objective is to understand what the project is, but the second, and, I think the most important aspect, is we want to make people feel like they have a voice in this project,” said Rojas.
Eaton said he is thankful for everyone who is coming together to make the project happen.
“A lot of good fellowship is taking place, and we're just having a great time out here getting some things done in North Tulsa in the community,” Eaton said.
Rojas added that they are hoping to have the master plan done by this summer.
