A Tulsa T-shirt company is selling shirts to raise money for a nonprofit that helps Ukrainian soldiers and refugees. In the Kendall Whittier neighborhood, work is being done at Mythic Press to help people nearly 6,000 miles away.
"I think like most people, we feel a little helpless,” Mythic Press Owner Allison Cunningham said.
Mythic Press, which does work for local companies and nonprofits, decided to expand its reach and help people on the other side of the world by having a t-shirt fundraiser. Ukraine's national flower, the sunflower, is featured in the center of the design.
"We wanted to make sure that we incorporated that flower into the design,” Cunningham said. “And then the petals are Ukraine's coat of arms."
Cunningham said they spent the last few weeks researching where to give money to, and decided on "United Help Ukraine."
"United Help Ukraine provides humanitarian aid and medical aid to Ukrainians,” Cunningham said.
The nonprofit's website says it started its work back in 2014, the last time Russia invaded Ukraine. United Help Ukraine works to help get medical supplies, food and clothes to Ukrainian soldiers and civilians, and even buys vehicles to help with evacuations.
Mythic Press said its goal is to raise $5,000, which means selling 500 t-shirts. Cunning ham said they have already seen more than 150 orders come through.
Employees are busy filling other orders and plan to start printing the Ukraine shirts next week. Mythic Press says as long as orders keep coming in, they will keep printing, and donate $10 for every shirt sold.
"We want to do as much as we possibly can,” Cunningham said. “And we want Tulsans to feel like they did as much as they possibly could, as well."
