A nonprofit supporting Oklahoma veterans is trying to get more support to help pay for their upcoming trip to Washington DC. The Northeast Oklahoma Veterans Freedom Tours are hugely important to local veterans - but each trip is costly. The nonprofit said you can help by participating in an upcoming firetruck pull event.
The April 9 event will be held on Pryor's Main street. Vice President Zac Doyle said teams of ten will compete to pull a firetruck 75-feet the fastest and said there's still time to get a team signed up.
"We need lots of teams," he said.
The money will help pay for the Northeast Oklahoma Veterans Freedom Tour's second trip to take several dozen veterans to Washington DC for a few days. Mayes County Blue Star Moms President Pam Buffington went on the tour last year.
“The pure joy of being able to be with their comrades and seeing the monuments that are in their honor. It’s just an experience that you cannot describe," she said.
She said a way to make those moments happen for more veterans - is to sign up for the fundraiser.
"People need to come out. They’re always asking, “How can we help support you? What can we do? How can we honor our veterans?” Come out, get a team," she said.
You can sign up by April 1s. The entry fee is $20 a person. Find out more by clicking the link below.
