Tulsa’s Black Wall Street was recently awarded a grant to build a new permanent exhibit.

The Oklahoma Historical Society says the exhibit will tell the history of the Greenwood District and its connection to Oklahoma’s all-black towns.

The Greenwood Community Development Corporation is getting $20,000 for the project.

It’s titled “Permanent Exhibition: Historic Linkages between Greenwood Tulsa and Black Townships.”

The Greenwood Chamber of Commerce says the installation project will include maps, documents, pictures and genealogy reports that show the connection between Greenwood and all-black towns across Oklahoma.

Nicole Harvey, the Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Oklahoma Historical Society says their grant program allows them to fund projects to keep Oklahoma’s history alive.

“Making sure that we’re getting these funds to these organizations throughout the state to make sure that we’re bringing history to local communities, or helping local community organizations bring their local history to the communities they are in,” said Harvey.

The group hopes to be finished with the exhibit in late June.
