Twenty-eight people and their pets are looking for new places to live after their apartment building went up in flames.
The fire broke out early Saturday morning at Harper's Lodge, near 51st and Yale while many residents were still sleeping.
Neighbors that spoke to News On 6 said a little boy was taking out the trash for his mom when he spotted smoke and let her know.
She then went from apartment to apartment, banging on doors to warn people.
"It was just crazy to think like, this is us. Like this happened to us, you know. You never think it's gonna happen to you and then it does," said Matthew Mckown.
Matthew Mckown and Julia Waite first thought their apartment had a leak.
"There was just like water pouring out of our bathroom ceiling," said Julia Waite.
McKown was on the phone with maintenance.
"I'm like there's a flood," said Mckown.
When a woman knocked on their door.
"Bang bang bang bang bang. Fire, fire. I was like babe there's a fire and then there was like smoke coming down," said Waite.
"Then I'm like, there's also a fire," said Mckown.
They scrambled to get out of their apartment.
"The dogs, the dogs. Like are you ok and get the dogs," said Waite.
"The papers, get the papers," said Mckown.
They ran outside to find the apartment directly above theirs engulfed in flames.
"Their apartment's dust. Like I'm talking straight dust. Nothing is in there," said Mckown.
"Like Thanos snapped," said Waite.
Tulsa firefighters said 24 units were damaged at Harper's Lodge, but no one was hurt.
"We see a firefighter bring out this little puppy. It was all dirty and he washed him off," said Waite.
Khalil Nisely was at work when he got the call.
"Just got moved here to Tulsa. All my stuff was stolen out of my car. Trying to get an apartment. That was hell. Finally, get one. Move-in and not even 12 hours later all that went sour," said Khalil Nisely.
But Nisely and others said it could've been worse.
"I'm thankful no lives were lost," said Nisely
"We don't know where we're gonna stay yet, but God's good, and I'm sure we'll figure it out," said Mckown.
Harper's Lodge said it has several other properties around town if residents want to continue renting from the company.
