Emergency Infant Services says the recalls and cost inflation of baby formula nationwide have become an issue here in Tulsa. Leaders at the organization say their facility is seeing a record number of families coming in needing assistance.
They say diapers and formula are the items parents buy the most, but those items have become too expensive or just simply aren’t available.
Emergency Infant Services says a year ago, they were seeing about 38 families a day who needed help. They say now that number has jumped to about 50 families a day, Monday through Friday. The organization says that is the highest number they have ever seen and it is due to inflation and formula recalls that have taken products off the shelves.
The organization provides formula, diapers, food for the family, toys and clothes to anyone with a child that needs it. Social Services Director Jacky Escobedo said they want to make sure a parent doesn’t have to worry about how they will feed their child.
“Families are coming in, heading back to work, but with the prices of child care and everything it adds up, families aren’t able to make it all the way through the week they need the extra support to get them by,” Escobado said.
If you would like to donate to the center you can do so by going to Clicking Here or by dropping off items in person at their downtown location.
