Driver Safe After Box Truck Catches Fire Along I-44

A driver is safe on Friday morning after the box truck he was driving caught fire along I-44.

The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. eastbound on I-44 between 145th and 161st.

The driver of the vehicle said it started after he smelled diesel fuel while he was driving and pulled over. That is when he says a small fire broke out.

The driver said some people stopped along the highway with fire extinguishers to try and extinguish the blaze, but were unable to get it under control.

TFD eventually arrived on scene and was to put the fire out.
