As of Aug. 18, all officers at the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office are having to record what happens in a situation the old school way: by putting pen to paper.

In a few weeks, the Rogers County Sheriff’s Department will install 70 new body cameras and 27 new dash cameras.

"The benefit now with these cameras is now we can record everything, come back to the office later on and review that and go back and look at it without having to look at notes the whole time, so it's a big help with that,” Lt. Chet Hunter said.

The deputies believe the job will become more efficient by recording cases as they happen, while being able to be repurposed as training tools.

“We can take an incident that one shift may occur or may see, and we can use that incident as a visual perspective to show all of the other force shifts as well as investigations and new employees coming on, what worked in that situation as well as what may not have worked,” Undersheriff, Jon Sappington said.

Half of the expenses were covered through the “Supporting Small, Rural and Tribal Enforcement Agency Body-Worn Camera Policy and Implementation Program Grant.”
