Local FedEx Driver Competes In National Truck Driving Competition

This past Thursday, a local FedEx truck driver represented Oklahoma in the National Truck Driving Championships.

In his 17-year career, Nick Arnold has driven over a million miles without an accident.

"If I'm not safe I can't make it back home to my family. That's the most important thing to me is making sure I make it home safe."

Arnold competed in The National Truck Driving Championships this past Thursday.

"We like to refer to this event as the Super Bowl of safety," Arnold said.

Arnold won the 2018 4-Axle National Championship and this year he placed 11th.

It wasn't the result he had hoped but he says that isn't taking away from what he learned.

"Everybody's trying to be safe and improve their skills and just let everybody know that you know we're just trying to be safe out there," Arnold said.

The competition has a written test, a pre-trip inspection and a driving obstacle course.

Don Logan is a former national champion and says even though the competition is about safety the competition just gets better every year.

"It's very humbling to just be in and around these drivers that you know are so good at what they do and it's just an awesome experience," Logan said.

Arnold says his favorite part isn't the winning, it's the community he joins and the friends he has made while competing.

"I like competing but I love meeting the people I meet," Arnold said. "There are some really good folks......really really good folks."
