Broken Arrow Police say they are seeing a rise in stolen vehicles this year, especially stolen trucks.
According to police, officers have investigated 174 stolen vehicles since the start of 2022.
Police say a good majority of the thefts are preventable if people would lock their car doors and stop leaving their keys inside their cars.
According to police, of the 174 vehicles that have been stolen in Broken Arrow this year, 52 have been trucks. They say the most common trucks being stolen are Chevy, GMC and Ford models that were made in 2018 or before. Police say they are also seeing a lot of cars being stolen that were built between 2000 and 2005.
Officers believe a lot of the thieves are coming from Tulsa to steal the cars because investigators have been recovering the stolen cars in Tulsa.
"It is a good reminder for all of us to be more aware of our surroundings and be more aware of what we are doing at night. Make sure around 9 p.m. you are locking your doors and taking everything out of your cars," said Ethan Hutchins, Broken Arrow Police.
Police say along with locking car doors, parking in well-lit areas is another good tip to avoid falling victim.
