Domestic Violence Intervention Services is partnering with a transportation group to help with rides around Tulsa for victims in need.
Leaders from DVIS say transportation is often the top need for victims of domestic violence and the move could help a lot of people get to and from important meetings. The nonprofit is partnering with Modus to provide rides to clients for things like doctors appointments and school activities.
Modus has volunteers from Tulsa who sign up to drive the victims and their families to wherever they need to go. Organizers say the partnership fulfilled a much-needed area.
DVIS CEO Tracy Lyall says mass transit is usually the option for victims but this service makes it easier and safer.
"Often times we have to supplement that with other types of transportation, particularly if there’s large families and multiple places to go in one trip, it’s just much easier to have a car transport you then mass transit," said Tracy Lyall, CEO of DVIS.
Organizers say the partnership provides safe transportation since drivers are screened and go through a background check.
