A Tulsa family is using their free time to help veterans and children who are in the hospital, by doing anything they can to put a smile on their faces.
Les Brandt and his wife, Jan, are at the state fair representing their non-profit, Charitable Solution, where every purchase you make is a gift for a child and helps a veteran in need.
“I try to have fun at what I do and I try to make a difference in somebody’s life and if I can help you, that’s wonderful,” Les said.
The nonprofit operates in two parts by offering support to veterans and helping children in hospitals.
“We’re buying gifts for the kids in the hospital to make sure they all get a gift for Christmas and we’re trying to help also with the veterans children with that,” Jan said.
Jan said the organization partners with The Children’s Hospitals at St. Jude, St. Francis and OU Medicine. She said every purchase is a "buy one, give one," with one of the two donated to the kids.
“You buy our M&M’s or something like that, you’re going to get one and then I’m going to give one to a child in the hospital because we want to make those kids smile,” Jan said.
Les said proceeds also go towards care packages for veterans at the Coffee Bunker, which helps veterans transition from the military to a civilian lifestyle.
“It’s got about 30 items in it. Food, water, hand sanitizer, stuff like that. The money we raise helps us buy all the stuff that goes into that bag.”
The Brandts said the organization works year round to help children and veterans and is always looking for volunteers.
