Cherokee Nation Breaks Ground On 16-Acre Housing Addition In Sallisaw

The Cherokee Nation broke ground on a new housing addition in Sallisaw on Wednesday.

The tribe says it plans to build the 16-acre 'Redbird Smith Estates in phases.

The first phase will include 12, three-bedroom homes. In the second phase, crews will construct eight duplexes.

The tribe says there are 33 total lots allowing for further expansion of the housing addition.

The houses will go to Cherokee families who applied for housing but do not own their own land.
