Lots of young families have new clothes, diapers, and other supplies on Saturday thanks to the city-wide baby shower hosted by Emergency Infant Services.

The staff at Emergency Infant Services said they host this event every year to help families with children five and under with necessities.

"My daughter-in-law and son have twins and they are almost six months old, “Harris said.

Rose Mary Harris says when she learned that her family donates used items from her grandchildren to EIS, she also decided to start donating much-needed items to the non-profit.

"We bring boxes of their clothes that are outgrown, or the diapers they are too big for, any supplies that an infant or a child could use," Harris said.

Helen Lazarin, with Emergency Infant Services, says events like the citywide baby shower help gather items for families in need while informing people about the mission of EIS. EIS partnered with Aldi and Walmarts across the Tulsa metro.

"There is a significant need for children five and under that are needing diapers, wipes and formula. We’re trying to reduce that need," Lazarin said.

This is the first year that clients could use the express services to get diapers, wipes, and formula through the new mobile services bus. It's been up and running for a couple of weeks, but Saturday was the official launch of the mobile services program.

"It's been significantly helpful getting to those families that otherwise wouldn't have those resources," Lazarin said.

The staff says they are hoping to bring in over $28,000 in resources, which will top last year's event. Harris says she's excited to see them expand their services.

"This is a great place to come because there are so many needs in our community for little ones, so we're just so delighted they're here and they're so giving," Harris said.

EIS is open on weekdays for those in need of services or who want to come volunteer or donate.
