The Philbrook Museum of Art just got a huge donation to build a new feature in their gardens.
The museum said a $10 million donation from the A.R. and Marylouise Tandy Foundation will help build a new pavilion and covered patio.
An early rendering from Selser Schaefer Architects showed what the 8,000-square-foot project will look like. The museum said it will be in the southeast corner of the property near Crow Creek.
Philbrook CEO Scott Stulen said the new expansion will be used for things like nature programs, special events, and education.
"Being able to utilize those more and more year-round, we're really, really fortunate and this is going to allow us to do more of that out here in the gardens and allow more people to experience it," Stulen said.
Stulen said the money will also help the museum improve things around the gardens like lighting, bathrooms, and better walkways.
He said the gift covers almost the entire $10 million project, and fundraising for the other $2 million is underway.
The project is set to kick off at the end of the year and is expected to be complete in the Spring of 2025.
