Families in need in Broken Arrow and Coweta are getting some extra support this holiday season, thanks to one of the city’s biggest nonprofits.
Broken Arrow Neighbors Executive Director Megan Quickle said the need for their services keeps growing. So far this year, it has served more than 56,000 people.
The food pantry’s given out more than 160,000 pounds of food this year.
Quickle said one in three Oklahomans are living paycheck to paycheck, which makes it difficult to afford Christmas gifts for their children.
That's why it started its "Joy for Your Neighbors" campaign three years ago. It hopes to inspire others to join the effort.
"There are needs everywhere in the community and you know that. But at Broken Arrow Neighbors, we’re meeting their want, need, and read and those very specific things and I think that’s really awesome. Not only that toy, but are meeting the need with a coat or that sock or shoes," Quickle said.
A little under 150 kids still need a sponsor for this holiday season. The deadline to donate is Friday December 8.
