A Tulsa man has taught Western dancing for 28 years.
From the country waltz to the two-step, you can find Bob Spears at La Fortune Community Center every Tuesday night.
But many of the people who take his class are coming away with more than a couple of dance moves.
When it comes to the triple two-step, you need a good partner. Someone to match your strong base, to be on the same page, and to just have fun with.
Every Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m., Bob Spears teaches the basics--from ball changes to spins. In no time, he can turn beginners into experts and, more importantly, strangers into friends.
"It gives people a social outlet,” said Bob. “It gives them a chance to get out of the house and meet people."
Giving people a chance to meet others and learn how to become a team is probably why Bob has become more than a dance instructor.
"People meet in class and got married."
He's also a matchmaker.
"I have been to probably over 40 weddings," he said.
Bobbi Lee and Tom Rendon didn't meet in class, but as their love for dance grows at Bob's lessons, so does their love for each other.
"He's been like an amazing dance partner, so the opportunity to learn new moves and patterns has been really great," Bobbi said.
Bob creates that opportunity and brings people together. So, even if you miss a beat, let go of your partner’s hand, or get the steps wrong, Bob gets you back on track.
His lessons apply to good dance partners and life partners, too.
