The 27th Annual Christkindlmarkt kicks off Friday at the German-American Society of Tulsa.
The holiday craft market features dozens of vendors, authentic German food, and activities for kids.
If you come out to the Christkindlmarkt this weekend, you'll notice that the German American Society of Tulsa is proud to put on an event like this to share a little bit of German culture for the holidays.
As soon as you walk in the doors of Christkindlmarkt, you're hit with the sweet smell of roasted pecans.
"Right now, I'm making cinnamon-glazed pecans," said Maggie Burlingame.
She’s been selling treats here for 25 years. She says it’s not hard to make friends when you're handing out sweets.
"It's fun, I love the people, and I've made some of the nicest friends," said says.
Maggie is just one of several vendors at the market. You can find anything from steins to Christmas ornaments.
"We crochet the scrubbies that people are after," said 96-year-old Marliese Osberghaus.
Osberghaus and her daughter Hellen have been selling their handmade towels and potholders here for decades.
"We love meeting people; they come year after year just to visit Mother, and they buy stuff from her," said Gibbs.
As the daughter of German immigrants, Hellen says the Market reminds her of family.
"To me, it brings back memories because all my relatives are from Germany, so it brings back memories for me from my grandparents and all."
People at the market take pride in sharing German Culture with Tulsans. It's their way to celebrate Christmas past and present.
