Candidates for school board posts throughout Oklahoma started filing for office Monday, in a filing period that ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

School board candidates were at the Tulsa County Election Board at 8 a.m., ready to file.

Tulsa Public Schools incumbent John Croisant was the first to file. He says he’s running again for the same reasons he ran the first time.

“I was a social studies teacher and have a political science degree from TU, and this is something I always wanted to do: help the community and help students,” he said.

Sarah Smith has not run for office before, but she filed for an upcoming empty seat in TPS.

“The campaigning part of it hasn't been super exciting for me,” she said. “I think once on the board is where I can really shine and do great work.”

Berryhill candidate Doc Geiger has served before and says school board campaigns in his district are not expensive.

“Gasoline money to run around and visit with folks in the community. It doesn't cost anything to run for school board,” he said.
