Tulsa Police say a homeless woman was found dead Sunday afternoon in a homeless encampment near 11th and Garnett.
She has not been publicly identified by police, who said her body was in the custody of the medical examiner for an autopsy.
Police say there was no evidence of a crime.
“I'm going to really miss her. That girl would give me anything I asked for, anything; she was friendly with a lot of people around here,” Clyde Peters, who lives in a line of trees nearby, said.
Police said another homeless person reported the death. Peters said she was found sitting against a tree. He said she had asthma and lately was having trouble breathing and frequently used an inhaler.
“She walked right here, and she gave out of breath right here; we stopped and talked,” he said.
The woman who died lived alone in a tent, against a fence, along Skelly Drive, underneath a billboard that reads “We are stronger together.”
She had several friends who lived nearby.
“She was nice, she would do anything for anybody. She was really a nice person,” said Yolanda Delacruz.
Peters said she would alternate between living outside and in a nearby hotel.
“She'd do about two weeks, and then she'd be back out here because she ran out of money. She was a good person, didn't bother nobody, and I'm going to miss her.”
