An Owasso woman is in the hospital with smoke inhalation after her home caught fire.
It happened Monday afternoon near 116th Street North and 145th East Avenue. Firefighters said they believed the fire started in the kitchen.
They said the smoke detector wasn't working and want to remind people how important it is to check the batteries in your detector.
"One thing important to remember when it comes to home fires really it is the smoke that becomes more hazardous very infrequently is it the heat," said Owasso Fire Battalion Chief Jarrod Linthicum. "It's always the smoke that gets into our lungs"
Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
Editor's Note: Firefighters on the scene originally thought the woman had died, but now say she survived. Her condition is unknown at this time.
