While Santa’s workshop is believed to be at the North Pole, you can find something similar right here in Tulsa.
“Doing Santa’s work, making sure that toys are in the homes they need to be in,” said volunteer Dawn Jackson.
Only these elves are wearing red aprons and pushing shopping carts.
“Fill bags, stock shelves, whatever they need us to do, we do it,” Jackson said.
It's the first day of distribution for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program.
“Today is a culmination of many, many days, hours, lots of steps of volunteers and staff putting together all the Angel gifts,” said Major Charlotte Gargis, who oversees the workshop.
She says beyond delivering gifts for kids to go under the tree, the Angel Tree program helps relieve some stress that the holidays can bring to struggling parents.
“There’s plenty of stress in the world without having to worry about your children getting Christmas,” she said.
Jackson says times are tough for everyone, but making spirits bright makes it oh-so-sweet.
“It’s why you come back, it’s what makes you come every day, because you know what you’re doing is for good,” she said.
The distribution is also happening on Wednesday and Thursday.
“We see the community come together and provide joy, and that’s what this season is all about,” said Gargis.
