The Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma has a donation match campaign that will run until the year is over.
Any donation coming into the Food Bank through Dec. 31 will be matched and doubled thanks to an anonymous donor.
This year, the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma says it has seen a 6% decrease in monetary donations but a slight uptick in food donations.
Matt Jostes with the food bank says they serve over 600 pantries throughout eastern Oklahoma and the need for food is rising.
"We’ve seen, on average, about a 15% increase in the last 6 months in families visiting those pantries," Jostes said. "So the need is rising, and why we’re seeing resources drop."
Leaders say with inflation impacting many families, community support is key to getting people the help they need.
The Food Bank is now in the process of opening its new expanded facility in 2024.
The project has taken about a year and a half and leaders say it will have one of the largest freezers to store food in Oklahoma.
