The AMC movie theater off of 41st and Yale is one of the few places in Tulsa you can find open on Christmas Day. Inside you can find moviegoers like Lynda Barbera in all things festive and folks like the Yarbrough family getting all the movie snack fixings.
“Comfortable top cause it’s cold outside, my Santa hat, my red lipstick,” said Barbera.
For people like Sarah Townsend, catching a movie on Christmas is something they simply cannot forget to do.
“This is a Christmas tradition with me and my mom, so we actually stay in our pajamas all day long, we go and have breakfast and then we come here for a Christmas movie,” she said.
Her boyfriend Tyler Walters tagged along this year.
“We have to pick just the right movie to go to,” said Sarah's mom, Kami Townsend.
For the Yarbrough family, this is their first time…since they couldn’t pass up the Christmas Day release of “The Color Purple.”
“We’ve never done this before,” said Lottie Yarbrough.
They say it's a good way to kick back and relax on the holiday.
“It’s gonna be dark and I might fall asleep,” said Jordynn Henry.
Townsend agrees.
“Definitely gives you a few hours to just kind of like wind down,” she said.
And they all agree that seeing a movie is a great way to bond with loved ones…especially on Christmas.
“Coming here, watching movies, just like the rest of the day just chilling, relaxing, having fun with family and what-not,” said Walters.
“I’m really big on family, so this was something that I kind of thought would be something that would bring us all together, and that’s what Christmas is really all about is family coming together,” said Tony Yarbrough.
