The Sapulpa Route 66 Christmas Chute is coming down after another successful year.

On day one, volunteers lowered the 800-foot-long canopy.

"Now that the panels are down, the decorating crew can come and take off the bigger pieces, so when they get stored they do not get ruined," said Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce President Janet Birnie.

She said it is all hands on deck.

"We have a lot of good volunteers down here so hopefully it goes fast," Birnie added.

The structures are the last to go and in a few days, the section of the Mother Road that the Christmas Chute once occupied will be back to normal.

"We are kind of sad to see it go away, but we are excited to start planning again for next year," said Birnie.

For now, those plans are under wraps, but the Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce makes this promise.

"We will always grow this, we will always change it up a little bit, so when people come back, they will get to see new things," she said.

An effort that in its second year attracted even more visitors to the city, which meant more money at the local shops and restaurants.

"It was incredible, the crowds this year, I mean, even just on a Tuesday evening we would be shoulder to shoulder, it was crazy, and it is a wonderful problem to have," Birnie said.

So, while the Christmas Chute may be what brings people to Sapulpa, once it is all packed up and stored away the people of Sapulpa hope visitors come back outside of the holiday season.
