Below freezing days are coming in later this week and 7th graders in Owasso want to help keep people warm.
With every loop and stitch, Mrs. Hussey's seventh grade class is learning a new skill.
Kloee Nordberg and her group of friends say making beanies is a tedious task.
"You choose your two colors of yarn and then you wrap it around this notch right here and then you wrap them around all of them twice and then you bring them up over it," she said.
The group of students are Mrs. Hussey and Mrs. Kime's fifth group to make hats.
“It was exciting because they were excited to make these beanies, knowing that they weren’t going to keep them,” Mrs. Hussey said.
The hats will warm those who don't have a place to call home. With colder temperatures on the way, the students worked quickly.
“A lot of them wanted to take them home and get them finished,” said Mrs. Kime.
The two teachers have collected more than 100 beanies from their students and donated them to John 3:16.
Kloee says she's glad this will go to someone who needs it.
"I feel so bad,” Kloee said. “I just think it feels, it's more rewarding when you are done to know that it is going to someone that needs it more than just yourself."
The project was made possible by a grant, and the teachers hope to continue it with their future groups of students. They've not only learned how to make hats but how to give too.
“It’s just really rewarding," Mrs. Hussey said.
