Owasso Police are searching for a man accused of fleeing a Friday afternoon traffic stop, forcing nearby schools to have a temporary lockdown.
Police identified the man as 21-year-old Mekhi Montez Morrison in Tulsa, in a post on Facebook Friday evening.
Morrison allegedly escaped authorities by hiding inside a trash can and then being picked up by another vehicle. Police said this was captured on a doorbell camera.
Police said the traffic stop occurred on 86th St. and Garnett, where the officer noticed the driver pushing something under his seat.
Police said he ran after the officer took him out of the vehicle and found the gun. They said it appeared to have a fully automatic modification on it with a 50-round capacity magazine.
It was the end of the school day, but both the Owasso 7th Grade Center and Ator Heights Elementary were placed on lockdown for about 30 minutes as police searched the area.
Officials at the schools kept students inside during the lockdown.
At this time, police are no longer searching school grounds for the suspect. Owasso Police said the students were kept safe and parents were made aware of the situation.
Police said a photo of the suspect and vehicle should be released soon.
