A Tulsa animal advocacy group, T-Town TNR, is hosting a spay and neuter clinic that could sterilize more than 1,000 feral cats in one weekend.
The cats going into the clinic will come from feral cat colonies all over Tulsa and northeast Oklahoma. They're being trapped right now by more than a dozen groups.
After the cats are spayed or neutered, they'll be returned to where they were found.
“These are private citizens that say they feed or see cats in the neighborhood and they don't want them gone, but they don't want any more,” said Samantha Polen, the Director of T-Town TNR.
Volunteers trap the cats and deliver them to the clinic, where the cats stay overnight after surgery.
“That is the only humane way to do that and one of the only successful ways to do that,” said Polen.
Volunteers trapped 18 cats at a repair shop in a few hours on Wednesday using sardines as bait.
They'll be micro-chipped and have an ear tip cut so they can be easily recognized as already sterilized.
The Director of T-Town TNR says the weekend clinic will help clear thousands of requests for their service.
