Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Director George Miller created the iconic dystopian world of the Mad Max universe over forty years ago. It began with the 1979 film Mad Max and continuing sequels Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior in 1981, our Movie Man’s personal favorite. Then came Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome in 1985. Now, nine years after Mad Max: Fury Road comes Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

This fifth installment in the Mad Max franchise is set 15 to 20 years before the events depicted in Mad Max: Fury Road. Anya Taylor-Joy stars in Furiosa as the younger version of the feminist warrior played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. In this prequel, she gets abducted from her home and held hostage by the sinister warlord Dementus who is portrayed by Chris Hemsworth. She tries to find her way home despite numerous hostile armed gangs. While this franchise is known for its incredible action scenes, director George Miller says the first question he asks is if they can tell this story in a way that is unique, but first and foremost: story is everything.

Miller also said he's in a wait-and-see mode regarding the next Mad Max saga installment, The Wasteland.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is rated R.

Garfield Movie

In The Garfield Movie, Chris Pratt voices the orange feline who famously hates Mondays and loves lasagna. After a chance reunion with his long-lost father, a scruffy street cat named Vic, voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their pampered indoor life to join Vic on a high-stakes heist. Other voice cast members include Hannah Waddingham and Nicholas Hoult.

The Garfield Movie is PG.

Sight

And a faith-based biographical drama called Sight also opens this weekend. The film chronicles Ming Wang, a Chinese immigrant to the United States who became a renowned eye surgeon.

Sight is rated PG-13.
