'Life Is So Precious': Collinsville Family Shares Story Of Survival After Crash

A photo shows the first time Larry and Trisha Lee were reunited after recovering in their own hospital rooms for 2 weeks.

“You’d never think that something like that could happen to you,” said Trisha. 

Now they’re back home but say their lives will never be the same after Trisha was driving them home on August 17th.

“Just talking to a buddy of mine on text about football, and then she said I yelled “watch out” and that’s all I remember,” said Larry. 

Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 16-year-old Gage Nunes ran a stop sign and hit the Lee’s vehicle. Nunes was killed. 

“I forgive him,” said Larry. “We all forgive him and are very upset for his family. We feel for them because, even though he made a mistake, they still shouldn’t have to bury their child,” added Trisha. 

Larry’s colon was crushed, and he has 10 broken ribs and a broken collar bone. Trisha has 2 broken wrists, a broken ankle, and a deep cut on her leg that required emergency surgery. Both came close to death.

“The nurse is like ‘Hey, we’re working hard to get this, and it's up to him to fight,' and I guess I decided to choose to fight and I came through,” said Larry.

They fully believe they’re alive because of God.

“God's grace, He's not done,” said Larry. “Absolutely,” said Trisha. 

They say their bodies are healing, but the emotional toll is heavy.

“Nothing is normal, we can’t even pick up our daughter, can’t shower ourselves, can barely feed ourselves now, we had to relearn to do everything, walk,” Trisha said. 

Now, they hope their story is a lesson for others.

“Life is so precious and so valuable. You never know when it's done, or close to being done, or changed,” said Trisha.
