The Freeland Center for the Performing Arts, a 795-seat venue in Bristow, will mark its 15th anniversary on Friday with a special concert featuring the band Exile.

Since its opening in 2009, the center has become a beloved hub for the community, showcasing a diverse array of events throughout the year.

The Venue

The Freeland Center stands out as one of the most acoustically friendly performance spaces in the Midwest, thanks to a community-driven effort to create a venue that emphasizes sound quality. Funded through private contributions and a school bond issue, the center was designed to serve both the educational needs of local schools and the entertainment desires of the Bristow community.

The Events

By day, the Freeland Center hosts numerous school events and functions, while by night, it transforms into a vibrant production house. The venue caters to a wide range of performances, including theater, concerts, symphony orchestras, and comedy shows. It is a cultural cornerstone, drawing audiences from near and far.

Upcoming events at the Freeland include “A Very Bristow Christmas” on Dec. 12, which will feature a Polar Express theme, as well as performances by a cowboy comedian in February and an original musical in June with music from a renowned Broadway composer.

A Rich History of Performances

Over the years, the Freeland Center has welcomed a variety of notable artists. Past performers include Tom Paxton, Asleep at the Wheel, David Phelps, Michael Martin Murphy, and comedian Preacher Lawson. The Tulsa Symphony's Bravo Bras and Tulsa Opera Principles have also graced the stage, providing master classes and performing alongside students from local schools. The center’s community theater productions, including “Beauty and the Beast” and “Mary Poppins,” have featured a mix of local talent and professionals, further enriching the cultural landscape of Bristow.
