A week from Friday, the Wagoner Bulldogs will begin their third straight state title defense and attempt to take a step closer to a state record.
If Dale Condict's team wins its first six games this year, they'll snap Ada's 21-year-old state record of 42 straight wins.
Wagoner will have to continue its success without do-everything quarterback Malcolm Rodriguez who’s now a safety at OSU.
"What you can't do is ask one guy to do all the things that he did,” said Condict. "I feel very confident in the quarterback that we're gonna put out there this year; Blake Duman, he's a senior."
Wide receiver Nikia Jones added, "We filled roles. People that left, we got people just as good in, been playing all year, so same thing, I expect."
Duman will have one of the state's top receivers to throw to in Jones. He had 104 catches, 2,600 yards and 46 touchdowns a year ago.

"We're working hard,” said Jones. “We got a lot of young people working to get in, but I think they're ready."
When you talk about Wagoner, you talk about 'The Streak' or the streaks, three straight state titles, 37 wins in a row.
They have a chance to set the state record this season.
But unlike a lot of teams, the Bulldogs aren't shying away from the attention that brings. In fact, they're embracing it."
"Something that great, I don't think you shy away from it,” said Condict.
"It's a big deal, and we want to do it, but we try not to talk about it because if you talk about it too much, it probably won't happen,” Jones stated.
Coach Condict said, "There's no doubt; if you're worth your salt, you're going for that thing."
