Protests broke out on Wednesday overnight in Minneapolis after a former police officer charged with murder in the death of George Floyd bonded out of jail.

According to court documents, Derek Chauvin posted a $1 million bond and was released from jail around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Not long after his release, Minnesota's governor activated the National Guard to help local law enforcement as hundreds of people took to the streets in Minneapolis.

With Chauvin out on bond, he is not allowed to leave the state without written court approval and he cannot have any contact with Floyd's family.

Floyd's family attorneys released a statement yesterday stating that Chauvin's release was “a painful reminder" that the family is far from getting justice.

The trial for all four officers charged in this case is scheduled to start in March of 2021.
