Water is out in several locations across McAlester on Thursday and a precautionary boil advisory is now in effect for the city following a large water leak.
The order was officially issued at 9:05 p.m. on Wednesday and according to an official release issued by the city, a water line break resulted in a loss of pressure in the water system and the potential for contamination exists and may be unsafe for human consumption.
City officials advise that consumers bring the water to a full boil for a least one minute before drinking, consumption, food preparation, baby formula preparation, dishwashing, tooth brushing, ice making, wound care and bathing infants who may ingest bathwater.
News On 6 has heard from several people in the area who said they were without water in the area.
The city has advised resident to avoid filling bathtubs or buckets unless necessary and urges against using dishwashers or washing machines.
