A woman is in the hospital after firefighters say her home caught fire while she was inside.
Chaz Floyd lives behind that home, and he said once he saw the smoke, he grabbed a water hose and started spraying.
"I was just trying to minimize the damage that could have been caused by not doing anything," Floyd told News on 6.
Floyd said he saw the flames and smoke coming from the back of his neighbor's house near 31st Street and South 129th East Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, and he knew he had to do something.
"I immediately went to the garage, grabbed a brand new 50-foot water hose, and started fighting the fire," Floyd said. "I've seen too many people not do anything to stand there and point a cell phone or just gawk."
Floyd said fire crews got there and started trying to get the fire under control. But, despite the first responders on scene, Floyd didn't put his hose down.
"I was right at the fence holding the hose up, and when it finally breached the top and started burning through the wall, the fire got so intense I had to back up," Floyd said.
Fire crews say the fire started in the back of the home. The woman they rescued was unconscious when they found her, and they had to perform CPR.
"There was some concern while crews were in there during the search that they needed to get out because the roof was starting to collapse, and so we were thankful that crews were able to get her out of there before that happened," said Andy Little with the Tulsa Fire Department.
Floyd said that woman lives in the home with her kids. He hopes she and her family are all okay.
"To be honest with you the whole neighborhood is worried," Floyd said.
Fire crews do say this home is destroyed. They do not know the woman's condition but told News On 6 she was the only one in the house at the time of the fire.
