The city of Tulsa is making changes to help attract more police officers.

Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum announced an agreement on a new contract between the city and Tulsa’s Fraternal Order of Police. It includes a possible $3,000 signing bonus for new hires to help with recruitment.

The city said the increase in pay will be one of the most significant in the history of the police department and will make salaries for Tulsa officers more comparable to neighboring cities.

“I just think it’s important to know that this situation, this crisis that has been created because of the staffing issue, it’s really nice the mayor prioritized police funding this year,” Tulsa FOP President Jeff Downs said.
