A Pryor veteran is on a mission to collect coats and socks to help as many homeless veterans and kids in need as he can.

He said he knew Pryor was a giving community, but never expected so many people to want to help.

From the decorated drop boxes to his shirt and his shoes, Kenny Littlefield loves his red, white, and blue.

"It was an experience I’ll always cherish," Littlefield said about his service.

Littlefield served in the Army and recently went on a life-changing trip to Washington D.C. with other veterans, thanks to a new Pryor nonprofit. He said it was there that he saw the need.

“We had seen veterans on the side of the road in tents and everything else," he said. "I thought, maybe I can give a little bit back. I was rewarded on the trip I went on.”

Now Littlefield is collecting coats and socks for homeless veterans and kids in need. He began passing out flyers and dropping by businesses to spread the word, and it spread.

"It just took off,” Littlefield said.

On Wednesday, Littlefield dropped off his first 70 coats at B & L Cleaners. Owner Bruce Becerra, a veteran himself, offered to dry clean every single coat.

"It'll be for free no charge," Becerra said. "It's our way of giving.”

"I have a dealership, a flower shop, even a funeral home that want to give me coats," Littlefield said.

Littlefield has donation boxes at businesses all over Pryor and in Tulsa.

“Bring your coats, come down, and we’ll gladly take them and help some veterans out," said veteran Cindy Hoffman, who owns Flowers by Teddie Rae.

Littlefield said veterans have sacrificed so much, and this is just the smallest way he can help people in need.

"Who wants to help our veterans, we all do," Littlefield said. "The service they gave and the freedoms we have. In order to give back to my fellow brothers and sister, this means the world to me."

Littlefield’s goal is to collect 200 coats, which he’ll donate to shelters and organizations to give to people in need. He is collecting through the end of the month.
