Oklahoma's growing film and television industry has landed another big star and TV series. Sylvester Stallone has signed on to star in "The Tulsa King", a show by Paramount Plus and "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan.
The series tells the story of a New York gangster who moves to Tulsa's criminal underworld after a 25-year prison stint.
Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell has been working for months to bring the series to Oklahoma.
"It was originally supposed to be in Kansas City,” said Pinnell. “Because of Oklahoma's great incentive program, because Oklahoma has been courting television and movies recently, within the last few years. They switched the series to Oklahoma."
Pinnell said show runners are currently looking for oil and gas landscapes across the state to film on. A lot of it will be shot in both Tulsa and Oklahoma City, especially on Prairie Surf Studio's soundstage, which is the largest in the Midwest.
"We believe they could start filming within the next couple of months, again which is good news for Oklahoma and for branding," said Pinnell.
Pinnell said Paramount Plus will take advantage of the state's new rebate program, which increased the state's annual funding cap to $30 million. The economic impact, he said, will be much greater.
"It's going to create tens of thousands of jobs right here in Oklahoma and really have a huge impact when it comes to sales tax revenue in both Tulsa and Oklahoma City," said Pinnell.
The Tulsa King is expected to be released later this year.
Pinnell said other big name stars will be in it but they have not released those details yet.
