A new trail system will soon open at Bales Park in southwest Tulsa.
"We actually engaged the people who live around them and work around them, and use them, and asked them what their vision is for that park," said Mayor G.T. Bynum.
The city said the construction of the new trails is a way to give people in the area more to do.
"To be able to build this here, literally in the back yard, for a neighborhood that doesn't have many amenities, will have access to one of the premiere trail systems in Tulsa," said Parks Director Anna America.
The trail system will be great for mountain biking, walking and trail runs. It will be 3.4 miles long. City of Tulsa Park Director, Anna America, said the hope is that one day the trails will connect to other trails systems in town.
"You can get into river parks, loop around to the Creek turnpike, things like that, so for the really dedicated bikers you can get into the major systems eventually from all of these," she said.
She said this will bring life back into Bales park and hopes people from all over the Tulsa area will visit.
"I think this will really help activate the entire park and get people using it in lots of different ways," she said.
The new trail system should be finished in about four months.
