A Tulsa man involved in a freak ski accident a few weeks ago is still recovering in a Denver facility. Although he's getting better, it's been a slow process. His family credits the power of prayer and love from their community.
Cody Forehand is almost ready to come home after he crashed head-on into another skier in Colorado last month.
His wife Teresa said he's a living miracle. Cody and Teresa Forehand said their life changed drastically in just a few seconds during Cody's ski trip in February.
"Trip with some buddies out there we've taken, for the last few years a great trip until the accident prolonged our stay," said Cody.
Cody was skiing fast and collided with another skier. Both were wearing helmets, but Cody had a seizure and was flown to Denver with a brain injury. Teresa said getting the call from ski patrol was hard to wrap her head around.
"It was a waiting game," Teresa said.
Teresa worked in the medical field and knew it was the kind of injury that could be really bad. She stayed with Cody in Denver, waiting for answers.
"It was hard hearing it, it put so many things in perspective," said Teresa. "Things were flashing, I mean I'm pregnant, with our third kid."
But Cody was determined and with help from amazing doctors and nurse, he began improving daily. Teresa kept followers on social media updated and prayers poured in.
"You realize how many people are rooting for you and supporting you," Cody said. "It's crazy."
Their kids were able to visit too and Cody kept improving. Cody's now in a rehab center, still getting better, and he and Teresa can't believe how much support they've received.
"As hard as life is there is," said Teresa. "Always something to be grateful for."
Cody and Teresa said this have given them a whole new appreciation for little things. They're expected to come home to Tulsa next week.
