Finding parking in downtown Tulsa can be frustrating, especially if there's a concert at the BOK. Nanee Henry remembers all too well how she felt just a few nights ago, trying to find a spot for the Dua Lipa concert.
"It’s insane, it’s chaotic, it’s frustrating," she said. She was frustrated after she paid online for a parking reservation, but the spot was given away by the time she arrived.
“You know you pay $20 or $30 ahead of time, and I got there, and they hadn’t enforced it and so all the spots were filled.” She ended up going to another lot.
Kasandra Wysocki is with Secure Parking USA, which operates several paid parking lots in Tulsa.
“It is stressful, especially when it comes to online reservations being fairly new. You know, how do I ensure that when I get there that my space is going to be secured?” Wysocki said.
She said a common misconception with some parking services, including Secure-a-spot, which Henry used - is what the reservation guarantees.
She said it locks in the rate you'll pay, meaning you won't have to worry about hiked up prices when parking is scarce.
But as Henry learned the hard way - if the lot is overbooked - or if you show up a little later than the reservation is made, you may lose the spot entirely.
“I would warn people just to not even bother with it. You know if you want to get a good spot get there early. Especially with a big name like Dua Lipa or Justin Bieber," Henry said.
Secure Parking USA said if a lot is full - you'll get a refund, which Henry received, or you'll be guided to another one of the lots nearby.
