After a few morning clouds and patchy fog, sunshine returns at mid-day along with southwest winds from 10 to 25 mph with afternoon highs reaching the mid-70s.
Dense fog is underway this morning across central OK where dense fog advisories remain until 9 am. Clouds should thin by midday with above seasonal average temps for the afternoon. A fast-moving system brushes far northeastern Oklahoma later tonight with another chance for a few showers and storms along the southeast moving cold front. One or two storms may produce severe weather.
Our main window for this front is approximately 10 PM tonight until 2 AM Wednesday morning. Behind the system, gusty northwest winds will develop with temperatures Wednesday afternoon reaching the mid-60s. A strong and deep mid-level low centered across the Midwest will keep very strong and gusty northwest winds across the central and southern plains both Thursday and Friday.
Despite recent rainfall, fire spread rates will be increasing during these periods. Temperatures will also remain below seasonal averages with a daytime highs Thursday and Friday in the upper 50s near 60. Morning lows Friday and Saturday will drop into the 30s along with the potential for patchy frost in a few valleys.
A warming trend is likely for part of the weekend, but morning lows Friday and Saturday will drop into the 30s supporting the mention of some patchy frost. Saturday will remain seasonal with afternoon highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s, but Sunday’s max will reach the upper 70s near 80 with gusty south winds returning at 15 to 30 mph. The upper-level pattern next week supports mentions for strong and severe storms returning across the central and southern plains.
As we draw closer to early next week, additional information will be forthcoming.
