Students at McLain High School will go back to class on Thursday, after a deadly shooting at last Friday's homecoming game killed a 17-year-old student and injured three others.
One group of moms has been supporting students at McLain for years, and plan to keep doing that, especially in this time of need.
When Keri Fisher heard the McLain Football team needed pregame meals, she talked to her friends, and they quickly jumped into action.
"We showed up with a spaghetti dinner, it was super easy, it was a fellowship for us as well and at that point we just kept coming back,” Fisher said.
That was five years ago and now Fisher and her friends have created an organization called This is Us Tulsa.
Members like Mandy Stewart not only work with kids on the McLain football team, but all of their athletic teams.
"We just love on the kids, we go down and talk to them we go down and sit around tables and share time with them,” Stewart said.
Every Friday, members from This is Us will go to McLain to serve pre-game meals, drop off snacks and sandwich boxes for teams, and hand out weekend snack bags to more than sixty students.
After the shooting that took the life of a McLain student last week, Fisher and the organization came together quickly to figure out how they could lend support.
"I think it's really easy when there's a tragedy especially one involving a child and the fear that we live in today to just withdrawal, but McLain needs us now more than ever,” Fisher said.
Members from the organization went to the school on Monday to show support to the teachers. Fisher said they plan on being at the school this Friday, just like every Friday.
"Our purpose is to bridge the gap. We're one community and it doesn't always feel that way and I know even talking to some students and teachers, they don't feel that way and so that was one of our biggest goals, is how can we bridge the gap between the communities because we are one Tulsa,” Fisher said.
Fisher is looking for new volunteers and encourages any one to get involved. For more information you can head to their website: www.thisisustulsa.org
