After getting another taste of spring warmth, it’s time to trade the sunglasses for umbrellas as rain chances return to Green Country.

Tuesday Highs

A cold front that slowly moved in on Monday night is stalled out across far southern Oklahoma on Tuesday, and that front will be the focal point for some heavy rains to eventually develop. That front will also lead to a large range of high temperatures across Green Country for our Tuesday.

Areas north and northwest of Tulsa could struggle to break out of the upper 40s this afternoon with north winds and cloud cover. Meanwhile, areas in southeastern Oklahoma closer to the boundary will still reach the lower 70s with some sun breaks. Tulsa sits in-between but likely closer to the cooler side of things, which would keep much of the metro in the 50s this afternoon if clouds take over quickly.

 Rain Timeline

Isolated showers will start to pop up during the day, but rain and storms will become much more concentrated during the later night hours near the I-44 and I-40 corridors. The severe threat is very low, though we could see one or two strong to marginally severe storms. But the biggest impact will be some locally heavy rain totals from late tonight into early Wednesday morning.

This first round of heavier rains will shift southeast of the viewing area by mid-morning Wednesday with a break in the rain for many of us. Another round of scattered rain and storms, again some locally heavy, looks to redevelop from late Wednesday into Thursday. Some areas southeast of Tulsa in southeastern Oklahoma could pick up another 2”-3” of rain over the next few days, which could lead to flooding issues. And on the flip side where the drought remains northwest of Tulsa, the rainfall amounts unfortunately again look to be much lighter.

We’ll dry out on Friday as the next front sweeps in and takes the moisture out of the area. Heading into the weekend and next week, temperatures look to be very up-and-down as cold fronts quickly sweep in and out of the area every few days. Looks like another roller coaster ride ahead!
