Tulsa Girls' Home Moving To Jenks And Expanding Services

The Tulsa Girls' Home served young girls and women in Creek County for 2 ½ years, but a property in Jenks would allow them to help more people, so they made the move. 

The transformation of a house is only the beginning to make a home that will transform lives.

"It's just where we need to be; this is where our girls need to be," Brittany Stokes said. 

Stokes helped start the Tulsa Girls' Home about 2 ½ years ago. The organization housed girls in foster care aged 14-18 in Sapulpa but found a new home in Jenks.

"They have truly wrapped their arms around us and said, 'Hey, come home. This is where you need to be,'" Stokes said. 

Local businesses donated their services to help get the home ready.

"We're just proud to be able to support the Tulsa Girls' Home and help them with this new facility because we believe it's going to help and support for generations to come," said Nicole Kruse with KMS Heating and Cooling. 

It isn't just the younger generation they have plans to help. In place of the storage facility that's behind the home, they built townhomes to house women while they transition to adulthood.

"At 17 ½, you kind of saw them kind of getting anxious, nervous, shutting down, and they were so scared about what that next step was," said Stokes. 

Construction on the projects is moved quickly. Thanks to the generosity of the Jenks Community, the home was ready to go in just a few short months.

"I'm sitting in the offices, and people will just knock on the door and say, 'Hey, who are you guys? What can I do?'" Stokes said. 

The Tulsa Girls’ Home remodel has been fully funded, but the organization is still working to raise the remaining $300,000 to pay off the rest of the mortgage and complete the town home builds.
