When the Mayfield family moved to Wagoner, they came up with a creative way for their daughter to meet new people.

She adopted a basketball player, and the family cheers on the Bulldogs every chance they get. That bond has become something special.

It's emotional being a fan. For six-year-old Laramie Mayfield, she experiences the highest of highs and lowest of lows.

Laramie and the rest of the Wagoner girls’ basketball fan base endured all they could handle in a tough matchup between the Bulldogs and Fort Gibson Tigers.

There's one particular player Laramie is locked in on: Number 23, Gracy Shieldknight.

Laramie "adopted" Gracy as her player for the season to cheer on at games.

"Fun, somebody to look up to," Laramie said.

Whether Gracy misses a shot or makes a free throw, Laramie is passionately following her favorite player in white, and it means a lot to the senior forward to have Laramie's support.

"It's a good feeling knowing that I have an opportunity to not only be a huge part of this little girl's life but encourage her to be super bold and all of that," said Gracy.

Time expires with the score all tied up. Laramie can barely sit still.

In overtime, back and forth, the teams drive to the hoop.

With time for one more play, the Bulldogs have the ball. Gracy shoots and scores!

A perfect ending for the Bulldogs and 23's biggest fan.

"It was heartwarming to know that I have someone that not only looks up to me but is cheering me on, especially in tough situations like that,” Gracy said. “Even if we would have lost tonight, I would have had a smiling face to go and talk to."
