'It's Really A Gut Punch': Tulsa Couple Says They're Struggling After Both Of Their Cars Were Stolen

A Tulsa couple is upset and stressed after both their cars are stolen from outside their apartment.

The couple told News On 6 that whoever stole their cars also took their baby's stroller and diapers and left their family struggling during the holidays.

Kurt Brown and Jessica Blais said they woke up to confusion and chaos Saturday morning.

"I look, I don't see my car. I scan the parking lot, and I don't see her car. I'm like, where are the cars?” Brown said.

Blais' 2016 Kia Soul and Brown's 2020 Hyundai Elantra were stolen from outside their apartment near 31st and Mingo.

Police found Blais' Kia near 14th and Lewis the same day she reported it missing.

"It was found abandoned, and the window was busted out, the side is scraped up, and the steering column is ripped up and the ignition is ripped out to get to the part that they turn,” Blais said.

Brown's Hyundai was found a few days later totaled and trashed.

"It's really a gut punch, especially knowing that you worked so hard toward something, and it's just gone,” Brown said.

To make matters worse, the couple said they bought both cars this year and they accidentally let insurance on both cars expire.

"I can't afford to fix them, I can't afford a new vehicle, and I still have to make payments for the cars that are totaled essentially,” Blais said.

As the couple tries to figure out what to do next while caring for their 5-month-old baby girl,

Lt. Chase Calhoun said Tulsa police have seen an increase in stolen Kia's and Hyundai's.

"It's very common for people to steal cars and then pass the car on to other people to their friends, joy riders or they may sell it to someone or trade it for narcotics, things like that, so by then, the car has touched multiple hands,” said Calhoun.
