Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) said this winter it will be looking for any severe weather like ice and wind that could impact power for customers.
PSO says the freezing rain, ice, and strong winds during Oklahoma winters can all have a huge impact on its system.
Whitney Emerick, Director of Corporate Communications with PSO, says they prepare for power outages by conducting winter weather drills with all types of scenarios.
While different from winter weather conditions, Emerick says the strong winds from the Father’s Day storm back in June of last year were unusual but says prepping for straight-line winds helped with the recovery process.
Emerick says the best thing customers can do this winter is to prepare before a storm hits. Emerick suggests stocking up on food, blankets, water, flashlights, and batteries to make sure you and your family have everything you need.
“As Oklahoma weather continues to change and evolve, we are too in terms of how we handle our logistics, how we handle our crews, and the type of pf equipment that we use,” Emerick said.
Emerick says you stay connected with PSO by checking their app and turning on alert notifications in case an outage does happen.
