The Philbrook Museum of Art is welcoming our four-legged friends on Sunday for their Philbark Dog Days promotion.
Since 1939, Philbrook Museum of Art has offered a wide range of art and events for people to enjoy.
But recently, the museum started opening its doors to a new kind of visitor.
“We started thinking about what could work to have dogs start coming to the museum,” said Megan Nesbit who led the charge in launching Philbark Dog Days.
It invites owners and their dogs to explore the museum gardens.
“As you can imagine, having dogs at a museum is not always the easiest thing to do but we created some very simple rules, so far so good, everyone's been following those really well, dogs are outside, not inside,” Nesbit said.
This is the first time Dirk Smith has brought his dog, Patches, to Philbrook.
“We usually just walk around our neighborhood, and she does pretty well, I thought she would just really love this," he said.
And he says 25 acres of space is a pot of gold for a high-energy dog like his.
“There’s a lot of opportunities for exploring out here and a lot of areas and it’s a great place for a dog,” he said.
Smith believes the Dog Days are a great example of the museum providing more than just art on the walls.
“You can come here for the art, or you can come here for the garden. You can experience a little bit of all of it,” he said.
So whether you’re drawn to art pieces or the wag of a tail, there’s something for everyone at Philbrook.
