A Tulsa man is in jail after police say he assaulted someone and tried to steal from QuikTrip near West 15th and South Denver.

According to TPD, Gerald Cunningham threw hot coffee in the face of a security officer when he was approached about stealing items around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. Police were called to the area and found Cunningham a few blocks away.

Police say Cunningham refused to comply with officers and was tased and shot with rubber bullets to little effect. Police say he then drew a knife and threatened to stab the officers. Cunningham managed to run away and during a foot chase officers were able to successfully use tasers to subdue him around 700 S. Cincinnati Ave.

Gerald Cunningham was taken to OSU Medical Center before being booked into jail. Cunningham was arrested for Assault and Battery, 3 counts of Assault on a Police Officer, and resisting arrest.
